Double the trouble, but double the cuddles

So here we are in lockdown for the second time. I am unable to work again and have had to cancel more photo shoots. I have had no wedding work since the outbreak and have had many couples cancel and decide to have a small ceremony with no photographer, but I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to photograph some lovely families and some gorgeous little babies this year. This photoshoot was really special to me as I had already photographed this lovely couple on their wedding day. It was a joy to be messaged by them and to be asked to photograph them and their ten month old twin boys. They wanted to have the photographs taken where they got married and I had taken some of their wedding shots. Grange Gardens in Lewes is a beautiful spot. It did not disappoint on this very hot day in August. They had planted beautiful wildflowers boarders instead of the usual manicured beds this year because of the Covid 19 restrictions and staffing. It still look stunning and made a lovely backdrop for the photographs.

It was an absolute joy to be reunited with this fabulous couple and to photograph their beautiful baby boys. It really was a highlight for me this year. It means so much to me to be asked to document this wonderful families milestones. The thought that my photographs sit in their and their families homes means so much. It’s always a privilege to be a part of someones special moments. Here’s to a better 2021 and being able to get back out there and to be able to share more special times with some lovely people.

Bo - Happiness is a fluffy puppy

I had the pleasure to briefly meet my niece’s eight week old golden retriever puppy. We had a very short visit and photoshoot. There will be more shoots when he’s bigger and it’s not so hot! His name is Bo and he was the most well behaved and gentle fluffy boy.

I completely understand how dogs are used to help with therapy, we all felt better and buzzing after a visit from this gorgeous cuddly guy.

Enough of the chat as I know you only came here for the photographs.

Sarah & Nick - Anne of Cleves House

It has been a difficult time for all of us in the wedding industry over the last few months, we’ve had all our jobs postponed or cancelled, and in addition for me jobs that have been moved have now clashed with others in 2021 and I have had to subsequently let down my clients, which is something I really hate to do.

Weddings can soon take place with a reception from August 1st, but with only 30 guests and currently most clients would prefer to have an extra guest than a photographer, and take photographs with their mobile phones.

So you would think I do not have any work to post and share on my website and social media platforms, but I was lucky enough to have had the chance to photograph two weddings before lockdown started that I have not yet posted. I thought I would hold off from sharing them because being in the middle of such difficult and sad times I felt people would not want to see other people’s wedding photographs, but as we are moving forward and hopefully into better times I decided it was time I finally shared one of them. Weddings are always days that are full of love, hope and so much joy. I feel it is something we could definitely do with more of at this current time.

The following photographs are a highlight of the wedding of a lovely couple, Sarah and Nick. They married at Southover Grange Gardens in Lewes and then moved a couple of minutes walk down the road to the beautiful Anne of Cleves house for their reception. It was a very intimate ceremony in which they were surrounded by their close friends and family. The bride was walked up the aisle by both her parents. She was wearing a beautiful lace dress that was bought on the high street! She paired it with the most spectacular pink shoes and a beautiful pink bouquet that her friends had made for her. You can guess the theme colour was pink, the groom also had pink socks. The reception was full of lovely personal touches, favours of beautiful succulents, the decor included pink cushion covers and an initialled light display that were all made by the very clever bride. There was even an Anne of Cleves quiz for the guests to do before the evening meal.

All of my couples receive a personalised gift of little felt gingerbread people, and an embroidered keyring (both made by me), that comes with their usb. Couples will receive all edited images on their usb stick, I do not limit the amount of images you will receive. Of course, Sarah and Nick’s usb had to be a pink one!

The food was supplied by Elizabeth Caton Food and Wine and the exquisite pink lemon and elderflower cake was made by Harriet Tamsin Cakes.

I still have some spaces left for 2021, prices start from £500.

Lewes Light Festival - February 2020

This is the first blog I have done since lockdown started. It has been hard to stay focused and enthusiastic about updating my website. I’m sure, like you, I have spent too much time on my phone, scrolling, more scrolling, reading the news and at times feeling quite lost. I, like many other wedding suppliers have lost a lot of work, it has either been cancelled or postponed. I’m hoping that things can go back to normal asap, but I know it’s a marathon rather than sprint. Too keep myself busy and still engaged with photography I have been taking pictures of the wildlife I can see from my window or on my walks (stay alert for that blog coming soon). I have also been documenting the lockdown diaries of Kermit the Frog and Gordon the Gopher. Please go over to the Mills and King Photography Facebook page for those daily updates.

I have finally, in-between making banana bread and watching Tik Toks decided to post my photographs from The Lewes Light Festival. It was held at the end of February, which now feels like years ago. We were lucky to choose to go on the Sunday of the weekend long events, as it was the only day that was dry and Storm Jorge had blown away. There were many beautiful installations that were scattered all over the town, so you also had a lovely tour of the town at the same time. There were installations at South Malling Church - a blue man who looked like Dr Manhattan by Lee Painter, Southover Grange had a giant moon, glowing purple rings by Eleni Shiarlis Lighting and another brilliant interactive light installation that ran around the stream. At Depot Gallit and Grimaldi run an interactive workshop based on the silent movie, A Trip to the Moon. The Pells Pond had some beautiful laser lights and the Pells swimming pool had a giant visual screen in the water, by Jeanne Blissrob. It looked like the monolith from A 2001 Space Odyssey. An adorable addition was a couple of polar bears at the Linklater Pavilion in the railway land, these were made by Nikki Gunson. These are only a few that were on display over the weekend.

I hope Lewes Light Festival can come back again in a post Covid 19 world, where we can be within two meters of each other and enjoy sharing in wonderful events and experiences and being back in our communities.

Viva Lewes - The way we work (out) 2020

I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph Februarys Viva Lewes 'Way We Work (out)’ section. The theme was local personal trainers. I got to meet and photograph four lovely, motivated people. That made me feel extremely guilty for my lack of fitness.

I am so pleased with the results and the photographs, they look even better in print. I love that all the photographs have similar colours, so there is a cohesiveness between all of the photographs.

I first photographed Lisa Dickson at the new fitness centre called Body Happy in Lewes town centre. The gym is relatively new and was full of the most up to date equipment to help you get fit or retain your fitness.
I then photographed Katie Weir who runs Lewesfit and is also a weight loss coach. She runs her business out of The Southdown Club. She has such a positive attitude and I could imagine her being a great help to someone who needs motivation to get healthy and active.
Then I photographed Gyles Abbott who runs Soulfit. He’s a personal trainer, but Soulfit also offers yoga, boxfit and other fitness classes, as well as having a healthy eating cafe.
Finally I photographed Nick Williams from That Coach Nick. His story is very interesting. A few years ago he found himself in hospital finding out he was diabetic. He turned his life around and is now helping others to do the same whilst training to participation in an Ironman.

It was lovely to meet these amazing inspirational people, I felt healthier and fitter just being around them.
