Rebecca & Theo - East Sussex National

It was an absolute pleasure to photograph this beautiful couple, who were obviously so in love. It was such a warm and caring atmosphere to be a part of, with so many lovely family and friends present. Not to mention the cutest bridesmaid and page boy. It was a smaller occasion, but the day didn’t feel any the less for it. It felt just perfect.

After what had seemed like a month of rain and constant checking of the weather reports, we got sunshine! The wedding took place at East Sussex National Hotel and golf resort. It’s a lovely hotel with lots of green spaces. It also has various size function rooms and there are plenty of rooms for guests to say in. The delicious gluten free cake was supplied by Sovereign Cakes, and the flowers and table decorations were supplied by Flutterby events.

Rebecca and Theo were married outside, which was lovely for me, as not only does it have natural light, there is a beautiful backdrop, but also I didn’t have to worry about my mask steaming up my viewfinder. There was a beautiful birdcage structure which was covered in wisteria, unfortunately it had bloomed, but it was still covered in luscious green leaves. There was a white carpet that lead the bride straight up the alter, so no need to worry about her heels sinking into the grass. The ceremony was so sweet. We took photographs with all the guests with the bird cage as a lovely backdrop. Then the bride and groom and I were driven in a golf buggy around the grounds to take some photographs of the bride and groom only. It was lovely and quiet with only a few golfers walking about. It’s always nice for me to be able to take the couples away from everything for their pictures. it’s the first time they’ve been alone since they tied the knot and its nice for them to find a moment of stillness in the craziness of the day. I highly recommend that you find the time in your day to do it.

It has been so nice to get back to work again. I hadn’t realised how much I had missed working. I feel so privileged to have this as my job. I get to spend my days photographing lovely people in beautiful locations. Everyone is at some point between excited, very emotional and full of utter joy. It really is the best atmosphere. To be present and to photograph the moment when these couples declare their love for one another and promise themselves to each other, it’s such an honour. To think that generations will look at your wedding photographs is very humbling. I pride myself in making sure my photographs are the best portrayal of my couples day. I try to document those little individual moments and to make sure that every couples set of photographs have a different and individual to them. I try not to make my couples pose too much, I feel it gives an unauthentic feel to the photographs. I want my couples and wedding guests to feel as relaxed and as comfortable as possible. People are individuals and each wedding will have its own vibe, so the photographs should represent that.

Rachel & Rob - Field Place Manor House

In May I had the joy to be a guest at my cousin-in-laws long awaited wedding. This poor couple, like so many others had to postpone their wedding three times, due to the Covid restrictions. They decided not to wait until the restrictions had been completely lifted. I think they were so desperate to tie the knot and could not risk anymore postponements, so they decided to make it a small affair.

It was such a lovely and joyous day, celebrating the marriage of this beautiful couple. I unfortunately was not the official photographer, as they came included in their venue package, but my camera is never too far from my side, so I did take some photographs, it would be rude not to!

After what had seemed like constant rain in the month of May, the sun shine brightly. The venue was the lovely Field Place Manor House in Worthing. It has the stunning gardens and a wisteria walkway that makes for the most beautiful backdrop. The day did not feel as if it was any less for having fewer guest. It was such an intimate and wholesome day. You had the chance to meet and talk to everyone, it was a very special day for a very special couple. I consider myself very lucky to be one of the people chosen to celebrate in their special day with them.

Back to work...for good?

In the words of Take That “I want you back for good”, rather than a person, I’m talking about weddings!

I was hoping that the wedding industry could start moving forward without restrictions, but unfortunately our opening up day has been postponed until 19th July 2021, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it is our final date, but for now it’s great to get back to work even though I’m not sure how I would fit over eighty guests in a socially distant group shot, but i’ll give it a go!

In May I had the absolute joy of getting back to photographing a wedding, after an absence of fourteen months. What made the day even more exciting was that they were good friends of mine, and it was such a pleasure to be asked to share and document their special day. It was strange to be back with all the different restrictions in place. The one that was difficult to get used to was wearing a mask whilst taking photographs. I hadn’t thought about how much my viewfinder would steam up, but after some adjustments I made it work.

The wedding was held at the seaside location of Worthing Dome. The downstairs is a beautiful Edwardian style cinema and upstairs there are a couple of bright and airy functions rooms, with a lovely balcony overlooking the pier. The venue was perfect for a smaller capacity wedding, there was plenty of space without it feeling empty, and it maintained an intimate atmosphere. Unfortunately due to the Covid restrictions we were not allowed to wander around to take photographs in the beautiful old cinema or foyer. We also didn’t have the chance to take full advantage of the beach and pier as it was a rainy day. It was even too much for my trusty rainbow umbrellas. The weather did not dampen the mood of my fabulous couple and their guests. We found some lovely spots in the function rooms to take photographs, and we did eventually manage to run out in-between showers to the beach. The guests were great sports and were happy to pop outside on to the balcony in the rain. Difficult weather conditions can be awkward to deal with, but it can make for some lovely natural photographs that are individual to your day. I love the fact that you can actually see the raindrops in some of the photographs. I chose to not photoshop the rain out, even though it was an uninvited guest I felt it was still a part of their day.

I think that because you can photoshop, I doesn't mean that you should. I like my photographs to maintain a more naturalistic essence to them. I feel your wedding photographs should be as real to your day, and to you as possible. I’m not a fan myself of the current trend in filters. I think wedding photographs should look timeless and could look just as relevant in a hundred years time.

Storm Dennis - The Uninvited Wedding Guest

I have been waiting to post these photographs since the beginning of lockdown. I didn’t want to post them as I felt it would not be fair to the many couples that were unable to get married and had their big day postponed or cancelled. I thought I would wait and post them when life was on it’s way to go back to normal, but as I think they may not happen now until way into 2021 I have decided to post them. Perhaps now they will cheer someone up and will be a reminder of the good things to come and that there is so much to look forward to. I cannot wait until I can get back to photographing weddings again and being a part of someone’s special day, to be surrounded by people and to be able to see smiles and to be seen smiling ( not that I am against wearing a mask).

I met this lovely couple at a wedding fair, they said they chose me to be their photographer as they liked my natural style, relaxed personality, and that I wasn’t the type of photographer to make them pose and be unnatural in their photographs. Your wedding day is all about you, but if you don’t like to be the centre of attention your photographer must respect your boundaries. I do not push my ideas on to my couples, I like to let them warm up and relax into their photographs. I have seen many wedding photographs in which the couple look uneasy and stressed. I have received a lot of positive feedback from my couples about how they felt I put them at ease and they felt so relaxed that they actually enjoyed having their photographs taken, when then usually they hate it.

The wedding took place in February at the beautiful venue of Long Furlong Barn in Worthing. It is a well oiled machine there, and I would highly recommend the venue to someone that wants a barn wedding. There is plenty of space, indoors and out and every little detail is thought about. Unfortunately we couldn’t make the most of the outside as Storm Dennis had other ideas, he bought with him 120mph cold winds and plenty of rain, needless to say it was rather difficult to get over 100 guests outside for a group photograph, (people don’t really dress for the weather at a wedding), but with the help of the best man and my bossy voice we managed it. It’s funny to think of being in a venue with over 100 people now, it seems so strange.

I had a lovely day photographing such a wonderful couple along with their kind and jolly family and friends. I am glad that I managed to photograph two weddings in 2020. I have really missed my work and cannot wait to get back to it. Unfortunately that may be some time in the future as I have had many cancelled and postponed weddings, Covid 19 sucks!

Sarah & Nick - Anne of Cleves House

It has been a difficult time for all of us in the wedding industry over the last few months, we’ve had all our jobs postponed or cancelled, and in addition for me jobs that have been moved have now clashed with others in 2021 and I have had to subsequently let down my clients, which is something I really hate to do.

Weddings can soon take place with a reception from August 1st, but with only 30 guests and currently most clients would prefer to have an extra guest than a photographer, and take photographs with their mobile phones.

So you would think I do not have any work to post and share on my website and social media platforms, but I was lucky enough to have had the chance to photograph two weddings before lockdown started that I have not yet posted. I thought I would hold off from sharing them because being in the middle of such difficult and sad times I felt people would not want to see other people’s wedding photographs, but as we are moving forward and hopefully into better times I decided it was time I finally shared one of them. Weddings are always days that are full of love, hope and so much joy. I feel it is something we could definitely do with more of at this current time.

The following photographs are a highlight of the wedding of a lovely couple, Sarah and Nick. They married at Southover Grange Gardens in Lewes and then moved a couple of minutes walk down the road to the beautiful Anne of Cleves house for their reception. It was a very intimate ceremony in which they were surrounded by their close friends and family. The bride was walked up the aisle by both her parents. She was wearing a beautiful lace dress that was bought on the high street! She paired it with the most spectacular pink shoes and a beautiful pink bouquet that her friends had made for her. You can guess the theme colour was pink, the groom also had pink socks. The reception was full of lovely personal touches, favours of beautiful succulents, the decor included pink cushion covers and an initialled light display that were all made by the very clever bride. There was even an Anne of Cleves quiz for the guests to do before the evening meal.

All of my couples receive a personalised gift of little felt gingerbread people, and an embroidered keyring (both made by me), that comes with their usb. Couples will receive all edited images on their usb stick, I do not limit the amount of images you will receive. Of course, Sarah and Nick’s usb had to be a pink one!

The food was supplied by Elizabeth Caton Food and Wine and the exquisite pink lemon and elderflower cake was made by Harriet Tamsin Cakes.

I still have some spaces left for 2021, prices start from £500.
